Questions
Is it actually free?
Yes. No trial, no credit card, and no expiry. There is an optional paid plan that doubles the resources for 75p a month, but the free tier is the product and it is not a cut-down version of it — the allocation above did not shrink when we added the paid one, and it will not.
So what is the catch?
Advertising on this website covers the hardware for the free tier. That is the whole arrangement. Your project is not throttled to push you toward the paid plan, we do not reserve features for it, and we do not sell your data.
Can I host a website or an API?
Yes, if it is small. Your server gets a public address and port, shown in your panel. Have your app listen on 0.0.0.0 and the port in the SERVER_PORT environment variable, and it is reachable over plain HTTP straight away. We do not provide a domain name or an HTTPS certificate. For those, run a tunnel such as Cloudflare Tunnel alongside your app, or point a reverse proxy you control at that address. Express, Fastify, Flask, FastAPI and the like all fit comfortably in 256 MB. Video, large downloads and file hosting do not belong here.
Will my project go to sleep when nobody is using it?
No. Plenty of free hosts suspend idle containers or meter you by the hour, which quietly stops your code until someone pokes it. We do neither. Your project keeps running, and keeps its connections open, around the clock.
Do I have to renew or keep logging in?
No. There is no renewal button to click every few days and no expiry timer. Deploy your project and it stays up. Only two kinds of server are ever deleted. One is a server that was never used at all in the 7 days after it was created — starting it or opening its console counts as using it — and we normally send a warning email a couple of days before. The other is a server that has been suspended, and we email you the date well before that happens.
