Monitoring

# Privacy and your data

Monitoring is opt-in. Nothing is collected from your app until you create a project, make a key and call init() with it.

## What is collected

Only what your code sends: metric values with their names and tags; errors with their type, message, stack trace, tags and context; events with their attributes; slow operations; and the service, environment, release and a random instance id. From a website, also the page path, browser errors and web vitals. For a linked server, its resource use measured from outside the container.

The SDKs never send request or response bodies, headers, cookies, query strings or IP addresses. They replace tag and context values whose names look like passwords, tokens, secrets, cookies or API keys with `[redacted]`. The browser SDK sets no cookies and records no user identifiers.

## Keeping personal data out

An error message or context can contain whatever your code puts in it. Avoid putting names, email addresses or message contents there, and use `before_send` (Python) or `beforeSend` (JavaScript) to change or drop anything before it leaves your app.

If the people using your app are in the UK or EU, you are the controller of what your app sends and we process it on your behalf, only to show it to you. Our privacy policy says more.

## Keeping and deleting it

Data is kept for the retention periods on the limits page and then deleted. Deleting a project deletes everything it collected, and deleting your account deletes all your projects. Revoking a key stops it sending.
